Creating an Interactive 3D Globe for Climate Change Awareness
Our team had the opportunity to participate in the NASA Space Apps Hackathon, where we were able to showcase our skills in creating an interactive 3D globe that allows users to visualize the state of the planet in different countries, highlighting critical metrics such as air quality, temperature levels, and natural disasters. The experience was exhilarating, and we are proud of the work we accomplished.
To begin, we conducted extensive research and analyzed raw data from NASA websites and links. We tried to rely solely on data from NASA sources, but since it was all raw data and we did not have enough time to analyze it, we had to refer to other sources. We then determined which metrics we would visualize on the 3D globe, taking into account the significance of each metric in relation to climate change.
To implement our vision, we used HTML, CSS, Javascripts, and different libraries. Although we utilized open-source codes, which presented its own set of challenges, we remained determined and utilized our collective skills and knowledge to overcome each obstacle. We had to be careful with the codes, considering their rigidity and fragility.
One factor that sets our team apart is our ability to work together effectively. With multiple programmers on the team, we collaborated closely, supporting and assisting each other to achieve our goal. This level of teamwork is crucial in hackathons, and we are proud to have demonstrated excellent communication and collaboration throughout the entire process.
Participating in the Space Apps Hackathon was a valuable learning opportunity for us. We developed critical skills in problem-solving, data analysis, and teamwork, which will undoubtedly serve us well in our future endeavors. Our commitment to creating a tool that raises awareness and inspires action on climate change is what drove us to work tirelessly on this project.
In conclusion, we are thrilled with the Heatwave team’s contribution to the NASA Space Apps Hackathon. Our interactive 3D globe is a powerful tool that can raise awareness and inspire action on climate change. We made every effort to use data from NASA sources as much as possible, but the time constraints made it necessary to refer to other sources. We are honored to have been a part of this experience and look forward to continuing to use our skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in the world.
